A.D. Moyer Celebrates 70th Anniversary

Gilbertsville, PA - A.D. Moyer Lumber, Inc. (www.admoyer.com) is celebrating its 70th anniversary of supplying building materials to developers, home builders, remodelers and do-it-yourselfers in Southeastern PA.

According to company officials, A.D. Moyer has a few low-key celebratory events and specials planned throughout the year to mark the occasion. To begin, it will be giving away three $25 gift certificates for local restaurants each weekday for the first 70 weekdays of the year. A total of 210 lucky shoppers will receive the gift certificate as a 'thank you' for their business between January 2nd and April 9th of 2009.

Additional promotions include special sales and events later in the year that are yet to be finalized.

Primarily focused on serving the needs of the professional builder and remodeler, A.D. Moyer is also a popular place for the do-it-yourselfer to find everything they need. "We have an experienced, well-trained staff which continues to be one of this company's greatest assets," said co-owner Scott Moyer. "Many have been with the company for 15, 20, 30 years and more. Also, if we don't stock an item, it can likely be manufactured in our custom millwork shop or quickly shipped from one of dozens of wholesale suppliers. The experience, versatility and quick turnaround along with weekly transfers between our stores allow A.D. Moyer to continue to specialize in specialties and provide superior products and services."

It's not likely that founder Amandus D. Moyer envisioned a multiple-location, multi-million dollar company when he first set forth in 1939 supplying used lumber from old structures that he dismantled including the Sanatoga roller coaster and a coal cracker. He was just a hard-working man making ends meet for his family.

Today, in addition to the original location in Gilbertsville, A.D. Moyer has stores in Pottstown and Douglassville all operated under the third-generation ownership of the Moyer family. Besides supplying hundreds-of-thousands of board feet of new lumber each year, the company specializes in some of the most technologically-advanced building products that the industry has to offer. Advances in technology and engineering have produced many lines of engineered lumber, sheet goods, windows and doors, insulations and more which are now commonplace in modern construction.

Technology plays a large part in the daily operation of the employees as well. A company that started with Amandus keeping IOU's on a notepad in his pocket is today largely computer driven with the inside salesmen having their own PCs and the outside salesmen carrying laptops with remote air cards as well as cell phones. This allows both to access the company's point-of-sale system, company website, email and other Internet sites so that they can quickly processes quotes and orders, stay organized, communicate with other employees and customers, and lookup product information whether in the store or on a job site.

A.D. Moyer was also one of the first local lumber yards to establish a web presence. In 1997 it started admoyer.com which has grown to be a comprehensive resource of building-materials information for the region. In addition to including a wealth of information about the company and a full catalog of products, one can find special sales, a contractor referral list, span charts and more at their fingertips.

Qualified contractor customers can utilize the web site's special login area 24/7 to process their customer quotes and update their individual online referral listings. By logging in to the pricing feature, contractors can quickly access pricing on more than 20,000 items which allows them to process quotes without employee assistance during and after store hours.

The company's Intranet allows employees to manage website content, odd-stock lists, contractor login accounts and more. Additionally, A.D. Moyer's Installation Department is administered through the Intranet with all locations receiving live-time information updates and email alerts and having remote access to archive files.

A.D. Moyer Lumber currently employs more than 80 part-time and full-time staff members and continues to be one of the few companies still offering free delivery on most items. Over the decades A.D. Moyer has built a reputation as a generous contributor to area benefits, charities, organizations, and the scholastic and athletic endeavors of the area's youth.
