$1500 Energy Tax Credit for Windows, Doors, Roofing and More

NEW $1500 ENERGY TAX CREDIT

A.D. Moyer is helping area homeowners increase the energy efficiency of their homes while putting cash back in their pockets through energy savings and available dollar-for-dollar tax credits up to $1500 when the homeowner purchases qualifying home-improvement materials.

On February 17, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 was signed making some significant changes to the energy efficiency tax credits. Homeowners installing windows, doors, insulation, roofing and more that meet the government guidelines for energy conservation can now receive a 30% energy tax credit up to $1500.

However, qualifications for the new tax credit are more stringent than ever for some products. To qualify, windows and patio doors must provide high levels of energy efficiency in two categories: reduced heat loss and reduced heat gain. The measurement for heat loss is called U-Factor and the measurement for heat gain is called Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC). In both cases, the rating must be 0.30 or lower to qualify for the new tax credit. Let us help you make sure the products you're choosing qualify!

We're here to help you make sure that the products you purchase qualify and provide you with the proper documentation!

What do I need to do to get the tax credit? Improvements made in 2009 will be claimed on your 2009 taxes (filed by April 15, 2010) — use IRS Tax Form 5695 (2009 version) — it will be available late 2009 or early 2010. In addition, you will need to keep receipts proving that you purchased the improvements and a copy of the *Manufacturer's Certification statement. Accountants and tax advisors should also be able to provide more guidance.

Stop by your local A.D. Moyer and talk to one of our salesman about the products you need and how we can help you receive your $1500 tax credit.

For those not able or interested in the do-it-yourself installation of their home improvement items, we also provide a searchable database list of area contractors and information on A.D. Moyer's own installation program.

*A Manufacturer’s Certification is a signed statement from the manufacturer certifying that the product or component qualifies for the tax credit. The IRS encourages manufacturers to provide these Certifications on their website to facilitate identification of qualified products. Taxpayers must keep a copy of the certification statement for their records, but do not have to submit a copy with their tax return.

Note: It has not yet been confirmed by the IRS that the documents need to be signed. However, that is the specific information posted on energystar.gov. The above provided document downloads may be adequate proof. Once the new IRS form becomes available, this information including all proper forms will be updated and made clear. Please check back or consult your accountant or tax advisor.

*A.D. Moyer Lumber & Hardware, Inc. is not a legal or tax advisor. The above summary is not comprehensive and is not intended to substitute for the advice of a lawyer or professional tax advisor. A.D. Moyer expressly disclaims any responsibility for determining whether a product purchase will qualify for the energy tax credit or whether a purchaser will receive the energy tax credit.  A.D. Moyer recommends that consumers consult their tax advisors and review IRS guidance prior to purchasing any product.  For further details on the energy tax credit, check the IRS website.
