HISTORY

In 1939 the late Amandus D. Moyer purchased the wooden roller coaster at the Sanatoga Amusement Park. Demolition started immediately and all of the lumber was moved to his home in Gilbertsville, PA, the present location of our Gilbertsville yard. Before long this supply of lumber was depleted and he traveled to the coal regions of Pennsylvania to purchase a coal cracker which he then dismantled and hauled back to Gilbertsville for his customers. New lumber was added in 1940 and other building materials were soon to follow. In the mid 1950's, his sons, Francis and Donald, joined him in the business and the company continued to prosper. Buildings, offices and warehouses were added along with more delivery trucks and our first forklift. Seeing a need for a second location, the Pottstown yard was opened at Armand Hammer Boulevard in 1974 on the site of a local baseball field.

In 1980 Donald Moyer passed away. Shortly thereafter, his son Scott became one of the owners. 1982 saw the expansion of the Gilbertsville store into an 8,000 sq. ft. complete home center. In 1985 we doubled the size of our Pottstown store to 12,800 sq. ft. and in 1987 a second 8,000 sq. ft. warehouse was added in Pottstown. In 1988 the millwork shop was enlarged in Gilbertsville to increase storage area.

In the 90's both locations concentrated heavily on fully computerizing the business with design capabilities for decks, garages, Andersen windows and doors, paint color matching, and kitchens and baths. In 1993, Terry Moyer, son of Francis, became a partner in the business. In 1994 A.D. Moyer expanded it's store hours to better serve it's customer's needs.

In the summer of 1995, A.D. Moyer celebrated the opening of a third location in Birdsboro, PA to better serve eastern Berks county. 1997 saw the passing of Francis Moyer leaving Scott and Terry as the business partners as well as seeing the addition of our own internet web site.

Today, A.D. Moyer employs over 110 full and part time employees and is a viable contributor to the growth rates and economies of the communities it serves. A.D. Moyer is eternally dedicated to providing knowledgeable and reliable service, with high quality products, at a fair price and continues to be on the leading edge of incorporating the latest technology into our business.
