THREE HONORED FOR TENURE
AT A.D. MOYER LUMBER
Gilbertsville – Three employees
of A.D. Moyer Lumber were recently recognized for
their many years of service to the company. Owners
Scott and Terry Moyer presented gifts and accolades
to Bonnie Kuser, Dale Colgan, and Laverne Henry at
a holiday dinner attended by more than 80 employees
and their guests.
All three received prepaid travel vouchers
on behalf of the owners. Terry Moyer noted that the
giving of vacations has been a tradition set long
ago by his father, the late Francis Moyer who was
the son of company founder Amandus Moyer. Terry Moyer
reflected to the crowd how his father stressed the
importance of promoting family values to their employees.
Because rewarding the employees with travel vouchers
encourages the employee to spend time with their
spouse and family, the tradition continues to be
the preferred method of recognition among the Moyers.
Kuser, the sister of co-owner Scott
Moyer, has spent her entire tenure in the accounting
department operating out of the headquarters in Gilbertsville.
Kuser handles payroll duties for the company as well
as other accounting tasks.
Colgan, Hardware manager, also spends
time in sales. In his 25 years he has served in both
the Pottstown and Gilbertsville locations and was
instrumental in setting up the hardware department
at the Douglassville location when it opened in 1995.
The milestone achievement by Kuser
and Colgan increases to six the number still actively
employed by the company who have surpassed 25 years
of service.
Henry, who is completing his 30th year
of service with A.D. Moyer, also received a gold
watch marking his scheduled retirement. Many humorous
and emotional memories were shared when Henry took
the microphone. Citing the multitude of experiences
that he has gained over the years by working in nearly
every department of the company, Henry stated that
he truly enjoyed being able to help so many customers
and will miss the people with whom he worked.
Scott and Terry Moyer strongly expressed
the value of the flexibility and loyalty that all
three have continuously exhibited in the family owned
business, crediting the employee’s tenacity
and leadership for the growth of the company over
the years.
“There’s no doubt in my
mind that the success of A.D. Moyer is due to the
quality of people that we have working here,” said
Scott. “ I consider them second to none. “
The late Amandus D. Moyer founded A.D.
Moyer Lumber & Hardware in Gilbertsville in 1939
selling used lumber from the Sanatoga Roller coaster.
A.D. Moyer currently employs over 90 full and part-time
employees in it’s Gilbertsville, Pottstown,
and Douglassville locations. |
